Goblin Car: Alford 2017
Our intrepid P7's are just back from the Scottish Goblin Car rally in Alford, Aberdeenshire. Since January they have been working on their electric racing car...turning it into a Nyan Cat.
37 teams took part from across Scotland. It was a fantastic experience for the group...they even managed to squeeze in a spot of Go-Karting on the way for pre-race practice! The Goblin Car project was generously funding this year by Loch Duart Ltd, who also gave us the services of trainee mechanic James Flett. Sports Day 2017

Amazing Journeys
Every year billions of animals move from one part of our planet to another. Birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects fly, run or swim around Earth. As part of British Science Week we have been learning about some of these incredible creatures and the epic journeys they make. All pupils from our three primary schools joined together for a series of workshops. We had a great day...and the playtimes were good too !
We celebrated World Book Day with a reading adventure. Everyone came dressed as a book character..then entered rather different classrooms, full of tents and dens ! There were tents for all different writing genres ; Harry Potter, Pirates, once upon a time, comics, history, non- fiction, explorers and Roald Dahl. All full of interesting activities. A very busy day !

A Garden for All
|
P6/7 pupils joined S1/2 at the high school on Friday for this years cross-curricular project : A Garden for All. The overall aim of the project is to design a community garden as a team challenge. Stage one of the project involved the pupils taking part in a variety of different workshops provided by invited guests and teachers. |
Inspired by Nature Workshop
Everyone enjoyed a very interesting Inspired by Nature Workshop brought to us by Charlotte, Liam and Rachel from Aigas Field Centre in Beauly. We went straight outdoors for activities to make us think about how nature has inspired our ideas and creations and to discover the importance of camouflage. We got to make our own spiders webs, got a close up of a birds nest, saw how to make a bird box and played the camouflage game. A big thank you to the Inspired by Nature Outreach team.
Goblin Car Project 2017
We are delighted that we will be running the Goblin Racing Car project again this year! Once again the P7's target is to build a battery powered racing car which they will enter in the Scottish rally at the transport museum in Alford in June.
This year Loch Duart Fish Farm are very kindly providing us with one of their trainee mechanics for the build days. They are also sponsoring our project with a £1000 donation.
In record time the P7's had put the chassis together and had the wheels on!

Burn's Supper
We had a great afternoon celebrating the poetry of Robert Burns. The chanter players piped in the haggis, P7's read the address to the haggis and the Selkirk Grace. Everyone tucked into a second lunch...including homemade shortbread and tablet. We were then entertained by the fiddlers playing Aye Fond Kiss, a reading of To a Mouse ...and glasses were raised to both the laddies and lassies with some lovely sentiments! We rounded off the afternoon with some dancing outside in the wintry sunshine .
